Renatta Fairbanks is a financial controller and crypto enthusiast who became interested in the space in 2011 when she was intrigued by the concept of supportive co-ops and worker self-directed co-ops. In 2017, she decided to invest in Ethereum and has since become more knowledgeable about the cryptocurrency market. Renatta is passionate about understanding the potential of blockchain technology for finance and accounting, and has even set up her own Ethereum node to audit the Shiba Inu blockchain.
She also enjoys working with entrepreneurs and helping them bring their ideas to life. Renatta has not found it difficult to engage with or retain an audience as a woman in the crypto space, and has always felt welcomed and supported. However, she has experienced imposter syndrome in the past, especially when entering a new field or working with former colleagues who were more experienced. She has overcome these feelings by being self-motivated and curious, and by reminding herself that she has a strong background in accounting and business process management.
Currently, Renatta is excited about setting up her Ethereum node as an auditing chain and using it as a blockchain analytics tool. She believes that meaningful improvements in gender equality in the crypto space would involve the adoption of worker self-directed co-ops and a flat hierarchy within Web3 companies, as well as a more natural and equal treatment of women in the industry. Renatta advises other women looking to enter the crypto space to seek out and connect with supportive communities through Discord and to take advantage of opportunities for in-person networking. She also suggests exploring the NFT marketplace created by TF Labs, which can serve as a bridge for traditional Web2 companies looking to enter the Web3 space.
We were incredibly happy to have her on to tell us about her journey throughout the space. Remember not all women have the same beginnings and it’s always important to keep learning!
